Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel, 'The Pretty Sister of José' is a tale that begins by introducing us to a slow, dull, but kind and faithful young man named José, and his pretty sister, Pepita, who live with their aging grandmother. After much slow planning and hard work, José takes his family to a new home outside Madrid, where his carpentry skills earn him good money. It is here that Pepita begins to dream of the grandeur of Madrid, and how it would be wonderful to see its splendors.
