Kilmeny of the Orchard is a romantic novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery. It tells a story of a young man named Eric Marshall, who teaches at a school on Prince Edward Island. There he meets Kilmeny, a mute girl who has perfect hearing. They both fall in love, but Klimeny is not ready to tie her life with Eric because of her disability. So the characters have to walk a long way to find reconciliation and happiness.
